The captain's official game account:

St. Croix's get nipped by Saints

On a cold and sunny afternoon in St. paul, the St. Paul Saints Baseball Club crossed bats with the St. Croix Base Ball Club of Stillwater in a five inning match game of vintage baseball.

The crowd was still filing into Midway Stadium as the first pitch was delivered. The crowd excitement was building for this was the main event of the entire day. Anticipation on who would come out on top was buzzing throughout and the crack of the bats echoed throughout the stadium.

The St. Croixs were first to bat and after several fine plays they tallied no aces. The Saints then came to strike and with some heavy lumber were able to push two aces across with the help of some "home field" bounces.

The second inning again saw the St. Croixs without an ace, but again some fine plays in the field ended any hope for scoring by the St. Croixs. The Saints then appeared at the bat and with some mighty swings tried to end the hopes of the St. Croixs. However, the stalwart fielders were able to end any threat the professional club could throw their way.

At the beginning of the third St. Croix player Scott "Bear Trap" Foss found a crack in the Saints defense and found himself safely at first base. After several strong hits that were turning into outs by the Saints defense, Mr. Foss was at third base with two outs. Another strong hit and play at home base just barely led to Foss being put out and again the St. Croixs were turned back from scoring.

The Saints then found some hitting momentum, hitting sky ball after sky ball which led them to tally four times in both their third and fourth. The St. Croixs found their hitting stroke, but came too late to answer the professional's hits.

After five innings of strong play, the St. Paul Saints had 11 runs and the St. Croixs zero. The score does not represent how closely matched these two clubs are and it is hoped that the two will meet again next year to continue this competition.
