Gateway to Minnesota History
The Washington County Historical Society invites you to celebrate National Toast Day in Stillwater, Minnesota: the birthplace of the automatic pop-up toaster. Just over a century ago, Charles Strite was employed at a local manufacturing plant. Fed up with burned toast in the cafeteria, a great idea “popped” into his head, and the Toastmaster automatic electric toaster was born!
Please join us at the Washington County Heritage Center (1862 Greeley St. South) in Stillwater, MN on National Toast Day, Thursday, February 27 from 6-8pm. Enjoy a program about the history of toast and view our antique toaster collection. Sample toast and toppings from local bakeries and markets, and vote for your favorite to be named toast of the town. Admission is free, but donations are accepted. For more information please contact heidi.heinze@wchsmn.org.
